Mahatma Gandhi, born in 1869 in Porbandar, India, was a key figure in the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. A proponent of nonviolent civil disobedience, Gandhi, also known as the "Father of the Nation," led India to independence through peaceful protests, marches, and boycotts. He advocated for social and economic equality, religious tolerance and the eradication of the caste system.
Gandhi's philosophy of ahimsa (nonviolence) and satyagraha (truth-force) became the guiding principles for numerous freedom movements worldwide. His commitment to simplicity, self-reliance, and the pursuit of truth left an indelible mark on global movements for justice and human rights, making him a symbol of peaceful resistance and one of the most revered figures in history.
